Cells (Animal+Plants) Flashcards
Revise for upcoming exam
Parts of animal cells
Nucleus, Mitochondria, Cell membrane ,Cytoplasm, Ribosomes
What are the functions of the parts of an animal cell?
Nucleus- Where DNA is stored
Cell Membrane- Let messages in and out
Cytoplasm- Where reactions happen.
Mitochondria- Turn glucose into energy (Respiration)
Ribosomes- Read instructions in DNA
Parts of plant cells
Vacuole, Chloroplasts, Cell wall
What are the functions of the parts of a plant cell?
Vacuole- Gives the plant structure
Chloroplasts- Turns sunlight into energy
Cell wall- Gives plant structure
What is the difference between animal and plant cells?
Plant cells have a cell wall in addition to a cell membrane, whereas animal cells only have a cell membrane.
What is an Euglena?
A unicellular organism
What is the photosynthesis equation?
Carbon Dioxide + Water (arrow) Glucose + Oxygen.
What are specialised cells?
Specialised cells are cells that have one job
What are some examples of specialised cells?
White Blood Cells, Leaf Cells, Red Blood Cells, Neurone.
What is the function of a White Blood Cell?
Part of the immune system; kills harmful bacteria and germs.
What is the function of a Red Blood Cells?
Carries oxygen, doesn’t have a nucleus to make more room for oxygen to be stored and carried.
What is the function of Neurone?
Part of the nervous system; carries electrical impulses (Signals)
Why do we have tendons?
We have tendons to move because we wouldn’t be able to move if we didn’t have them.
What are antagonistic pairs?
Two parts of the body that work together to perform a function.
