Q

Male Anatomy

A

Male Body:

  • Bladder: This stores the urine.
  • Testes: This is what produces sperm and testosterone.
  • Penis: This is what deposits sperm into the vagina.
  • Scrotum: This is the sac (skin) that contains the testes.
  • Ejaculatory Duct: This is what propels semen into the urethra.
  • Seminal Vesicle: This is what secretes fructose into sperm.
  • Vas Deferens: This is what carries the sperm from the testes to the ejaculatory duct.
  • Ureter: This is what transports your urine from the kidneys to the bladder.
  • Prostate: This is what secretes an alkaline (basic buffer).
  • Cowper’s Gland: This releases mucous prior to ejaculation.
  • Urethra: This is what transports urine out of the body.
  • Epididymis: Sperm maturation occurs here.
  • Seminiferous Tubules: The site of spermatogenesis.

Parts of Sperm:

  • Head: This contains an enzyme called acrosome that permits the sperm to move through the outer layer of an egg (23 chromosomes).
  • MidPiece: This piece contains mitochondria which provides energy for movement.
  • Tail: This is what propels sperm cells.

Q

Female Anatomy

A
  • Ovaries (female gonad): This secretes hormones, protects the follicles females are born with, and releases eggs for fertilization.
  • Fallopian Tubes: This is what connect the uterus to the ovaries and this is where fertilized eggs pass through.
  • Uterus: This is a hollow muscular organ that is located between the rectum and bladder.
  • Endometrium: This is the inner most lining/layer of the uterus.
  • Cervix: This is the cylinder shaped neck of tissue that connects the vagina to the uterus.
Vagina: Connects the uterus to the outside of the body, a muscular canal.

Q

Sterilization of Male and Female Anatomy

A

For males, you would block, cut or tie, the Vas Deferens (would still release fluid, it just wouldn’t have sperm in it). For females, you would block, cut or tie the fallopian tubes.
