Reproductive System Flashcards
They produce, maintain, and transport sperm and semen
Male reproductive system
The male reproductive cells
Sperm
The protective fluid around sperm
Semen
Primary hormones of male reproductive system
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone
Where does FSH and LH are produced?
Pituitary gland
This hormone is necessary for sperm production
FSH or follicle-stimulating hormone
What hormone stimulates the production of testosterone
Luteinizing hormone
This is important in the development of male characteristics, including muscle mass and strength, fat distribution, bone mass and sex drive
Testosterone
3 parts of a penis
The root, shaft, and glans
Part of the penis that attaches to the wall of your abdomen
Root
Sponge-like erectile tissue that contains thousands of large spaces that fill with blood when you’re sexually aroused
Shaft
Cone-shaped end of the penis
Glans
The tube that transports semen and urine out of the body
Urethra
Holds and protects the testes and provides a sort of climate control system
Scrotum
They are responsible for making testosterone for producing sperm
Testes
Within the testes, what are coiled masses of tubes that are responsible for producing the sperm cells?
Seminiferous tubules
Carries and stores sperm cells that are created in the testes. It’s job is also to bring sperm in to maturity
Epididymis
Internal glands are also known as
Accessory organs
Transports mature sperm to the urethra in preparation for ejaculation
Vas deferens
Ducts are formed by the fusion of the vas deferens and the seminal vesicles.
Ejaculatory duct
Carries urine and sperm to outside of your body
Urethra
It makes a suagr-rich fluid (fructose) that provides sperm with a source of energy and helps with sperm’s motility
Seminal vesicles
It contributes additional fluid to the ejaculate. Its fluid also helps nourish he sperm
Prostate gland
These glands produce a clear, slippery fluid that empties directly into the urethra. This fluid seres to lubricate the urethra and to neutralize any acidity hat may be present
Bulbourethral glands or cowper’s glands
