Uterine Contraction
Oxytonic:
- Misoprostol
- Dinoprostone cervical gel
- Oxytocin
-Methrylergonovine
Facts:
- prevents hemorrhage and starts labor process
- maintain client on bed rest for at least 2 hours after insertion
- tachysystole is major side effect (>5 contractions in 10 mins)
- do not give oxytocin when bishop score is greater than 6 (more likely to go into labor at the momment)
- turn client to side lying position first when late decelerations occur
- discontinue oxyctocin when signs of uterine hypoerstimulation or maternal fetal distress occur
- administer oxygen 10L for hyperstimulation
- monitor blood pressure and uterine bleeding/tone
Uterine Relaxants
Tocolytics:
- Terbutaline sulfate
- Nifedipine
- Magnesium Sulfate
Facts:
- stop preterm labor
- can cause hypotension, hyperglycemia, chest pain,
- magnesium levels should be 4-8 therapeutically
