What does sexual reproduction produce?
Offspring that resembles their parents, but aren’t identical to them.
What does asexual reproduction produce?
Offspring - clones - which are genetically identical to their parents.
How can plants be cloned?
Artificially using cuttings or tissue culture
How can animals be cloned?
Using embryo transplants or fusion cell cloning
How can genetic information from one species be transferred to another species?
Using genetic modification
What are gametes?
Sex cells
What are male sex cells called?
Sperm
What are female sex cells called?
Eggs or ova
When does sexual reproduction happen?
When a male gamete and female gamete join. This fusion of gametes is called fertilisation.
How many chromosomes are in each gamete (in human beings)?
23 chromosomes, half the number found in the other cells of the body.
How many parents are needed for asexual reproduction?
Only one parent, unlike sexual reproduction which needs two parents.
