What does the embryo look like at the start?
It is a BALL OF CELLS made from the fertilised eggs
What does the embryo look like around 1 MONTH?
It has a BRAIN, HEART, EYES, EARS and LEGS
Around 6mm in size
What does the embryo looks like around 9 WEEKS?
25mm long and COMPLETELY FORMED
It is now called a FOETUS
What does the foetus look like at 3 months?
Around 54 mm long
Looks more like a baby
What does a foetus look like at 5 months?
The foetus KICKS and has FINGERNAILS
160mm in size
What does viable mean?
It means that if the foetus was born now it has a decent chance of surviving
When is a foetus considered to be viable and likely to survive if it is born?
7 months onwards
What is a foetus?
An unborn baby (inside the mum still)
What is the placenta?
An organ that makes sure the foetus gets NUTRIENTS and OXYGEN from the mother and gets rid of any WASTE
Should mothers smoke and drink alcohol when they’re pregnant?
Why?
No
Smoking and drinking alcohol means HARMFUL CHEMICALS can cross the PLACENTA can harm the FOETUS and cause HEALTH PROBLEMS
