Reproduction Flashcards
What is the restriction point in G1 checking for?
If DNA is OK to replicate. If not, cell goes into arrest to repair DNA.
What is checked in the G2 phase?
Enough organelles for 2 cells? Enough cytoplasm? DNA replicated accurately?
What is the G0 phase?
Offshoot of G1, where cells are living and doing stuff without prepping to replicate.
Who checks the check points b/w G1/S and G2/M?
p53
What are cyclins and CDKs?
Cyclins bind to CDKs to create cyclin-CDK complexes which phosphorylate transcription factors, initiating transcription of genes.
What is cancer?
when damaged cells lose cell cycle control.
When is the spindle made?
in prophase
when does spindle attach to kinetochore proteins?
in prophase
What composes interphase?
G1, S, and G2 phases compose interphase
What is the centromere?
Holds sister chomatids together
What is a centrosome
microtubule organization center; where mitotic spindle is made
