What is reproduction?
The process by which living organism produce new individuals of the same kind as themselves.
Explain, in detail, the difference between asexual and sexual reproduction.
Asexual reproduction is conservative and involves one parent whose offspring are genetically identical and produced by mitosis whereas sexual reproduction results in variation because it involves two parents whose gametes, produced by meiosis, fuse to form a single cell called a zygote which then divides by mitosis to form the embryo.
Where are the gametes produced?
In the reproductive systems.
What is the female gamete called and where is the produced?
Ova and is produced by the in the two ovaries.
What are the different parts of the female reproductive system and their functions?
Fallopian tube - carries the ova from the ovary to the uterus and is where the
Ovary - produces the ova and secretes the female sex hormones
Uterus - where the fetus grows and develops during pregnancy
Uterus lining - has a rich blood supply and where the embryo is implanted
Uterus wall - stretches to accommodate the growing fetus and contracts during childbirth
Cervix - the ring of muscle around the neck of the uterus that keeps the neck closed during pregnancy
Vagina - the passage from the uterus to the outside and where the penis enters and deposits the sperm
