Q

What is the type of epithelium present in the endo and ectocervix?

A

The endocervix has soft columnar glandular cells

The ectocervix has hard squamous cells

(NB the endocervical canal is the region where the glandular cells transform to squamous cells - this is where the majority of neoplasms occur)

Q

What is the epithelia type in the vagina?

A

Squamous epithelium which produce glycogen (stimulated to do so by oestrogen)
This glycogen provides energy to lactobacilli so they can produce lactic acid to keep vaginal pH low

Q

Where in the testis are the leydig and sertoli cells located?

A

The sertoli cells are the tall columnar cells which line the seminiferous tubules

The leydig cells are found in the collagen which surrounds the seminiferous tubules

Q

What are the layers surrounding the vas deferens?

A

Lined by pseudostratified columnar epithelium, then lamina propria and 3 layers of smooth muscle (inner and outer are longitudinal and middle is circular)

Q

What epithelium lines the seminal vesicles?

A

The seminal vesicles are outgrowths of the vas deferens therefore have the same epithelia - pseudostratified columnar

Q

What are the sections of the fallopian tube?

A

The fimbrae which capture the ovum
The infundibulum which is the part the fimbrae are attached to
The ampulla is the site of fertilisation
The intramural part is within the uterine wall

Q

What epithelia line the fallopian tubes?

A

Columnar epithelia with cilia along with peg cells which secrete mucus - the number of peg cells increases at the tube approaches the uterus
