Representing Sounds Flashcards
1
Q
How is sound stored?
A
- Sound is visualised as an anolouge wave.
- To store digitally + Binary:
- Convert analouge signal into a digital binary one.
- ## ADC. (Analouge to digital conversion).
2
Q
What affects the quality of digitally converted sound waves?
A
- Sample Rate + Bit Detail.
3
Q
What is the sample rate?
A
- How often you record the amplitude of a sound wave.
- More often= smoother playback sound + Greater quality.
- Measured in HZ.
4
Q
What is bit depth?
A
- How many different gradations of amplitude can be represented in a digital wave form.
- ## Measured in bits.
5
Q
How do we work out the size of the sample?
A
- (Number of samples per second) x (Number of bits per sample). x (Length of sample in seconds).
