What idea did Hall put forward?
That representation is the way in which meanings are produced through the signs and codes that are a part of media language.
What did Hall say about stereotyping?
Stereotyping reduces people to a few simple, recognisable characteristics.
Stereotyping tends to occur where there are inequalities of power e.g minority groups in society may often be represented as ‘other’ and ‘different’.
Theory in a nutshell
