A

representation:
argues that in a text there can often not be the true representation of people, places or history. Because there can never be one true meaning and that meaning can be challenged.

Stereotyping occurs when there is an inequality of power. When a dominant group in society makes the media product, meaning they represent the non dominant group is stereotypical ways and the non dominant group often don’t get the opportunity to challenge the stereotypes as they are blocked from the media production process.

theories of identity:
Believes media helps us to construct our identities. It provides us with ‘tools’ to shape them.

In the past these media tool boxes were simple and gave straight forward messages about ideal types of male and female identities. However, media has evolved and today it offers a more diverse range of media models from who we can pick and mix different ideas.
