If a traffic accident is not reported to the persons at the scene, how can you avoid an offence of failing to report?
A
By going, as soon as practicable, to a constable or a police station to report it. Any delay can result in the offence being complete, even if you are going to do it later.

- the presence of a MECHANICALLY PROPELLED VEHICLE
- on a ROAD OR PUBLIC PLACE

- personal injury is caused to anyone OTHER THAN THE DRIVER IF THE VEHICLE CONCERNED (including passengers)
- a vehicle OTHER THAN THE ONE CONCERNED or it’s TRAILER
- to an animal OTHER THAN IN OR ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNED or it’s TRAILER
- to any property constructed on or fixed to or growing in or forming part of the land the road is on or adjacent to

- their name
- their address
- the name of the owner
- the address of the owner
- identifying marks for the vehicle
- (in the case of injury) a certificate of insurance or other proof of
…if you do not provide the above you MUST REPORT IT
- damage cause to includes ANY VEHICLE (including bicycles)
- failing to stop immediately completes the offence immediately
- shock and psychological harm are included as injuries
- drunkenness is never a defence

How do you report an accident and produce an insurance certificate (if necessary)
A
- to a police station
- to a police constable
- AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
- must be within 24hrs of the accident
- it must be made in person and not via a phone call/message or through a third party
- waiting up to 24hrs will not suffice, it must be as soon as
- informing an officer as a friend will not count
- the offence is not negated by you going to hospital or if the police attend the accident and see it; YOU MUST REPORT IT
