Reperfusion Flashcards
1
Q
What is the best way to prevent or minimize a MI?
A
restoring blood flow to ischemic myocytes by angioplasty, thrombolytic therapy or coronary bypass
2
Q
What does reperfusing heart after start of MI do?
A
may salvage reversibly injured myocytes
BUT if already irreversibly fatally injured (dead), reperfusion cannot save it, but will alter appearance of infarct
3
Q
Reperfusion of MI causes it to be:
A
- smaller
- patchier
- more hemorrhage into it
- more contraction band necrosis
- accelerated inflammation and repair
- diffusion of inflammation and repair
- fewer neutrophils
- more macrophages
- more interstitial fibrosis
