Myocardial ischemia Flashcards
definition
reversible
inadequate blood supply to heart
Causes
fixed coronary stenosis increased myocardial demand coronary vasospasm intraplaque hemorrhage superimposed thrombosis combination of these factors
stunned myocytes
myocytes injured by acute ischemia
look normal microscopically, but need time to repair before they work normally again
hibernating myocytes
chronically ischemic myocytes
cleared cytoplasm due to catabolism of their contractile proteins
Myocytolysis
light microscopic appearance of hibernating myocytes
ischemic preconditioning
resistance to mild to moderate ischemia due to induction of protective proteins by brief episodes of ischemia
contraction band necrosis
dead myocytes with dense hypereosionphilic transverse bands of hypercontracted sarcomeres associated w/ reperfusion
no-reflow phenomenon
failure of relieving obstruction at arterial level to restore blood flow…atributed to microvascular obstruction or edema
reperfusion injury
hemorrhage and other injurious phenomena associated w/ bringing O2 and calcium to injured tissue…attributed to ROS and metabolic effects of calcium
