- The ONLY stem changing verbs in the preterite are those ending in -IR. All other verbs do not change stems.
Furthermore, these changes only occur in the THIRD PERSON SINGULAR AND PLURAL.
All O -> UE present tense stem changing verbs have a slight further stem change in the preterite. Conjugate DORMIR in the preterite to illustrate this:
O > UE in the present = U in the preterite, but only in the third person:
