fever males 15-45 years present in summer (April-August) Tick Bite Saddleback fever Headache, myalgias, arthralgias, fatigue 5-15% transient rash Encephalitis in 3-15 percent of infected children under 10, pericarditis also possible 0.2 percent fatality, 2 week recovery
Pathogenesis
Bone marrow cells (arrest development of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, eosinophils, basophils…may cause thrombocytopenia and platelets)
4-5 days after tick bite
Antibody appears after 2 weeks
Epidemiology
Wood ticks, small mammal reservoir
Ticks are infected for life once infected. The ticks cannot spread it to each other, they can only get it from rodents.

Remove tick immediately, check for ticks, Protect exposed areas from ticks
