Near normal lifestyle
Better mortality/morbidity
What are the disadvantages of renal transplant?
Lots of criteria to meet in order to safely undergo operation
Compliance with medication lifelong
Infection risk (due to immunosuppression)
Malignancy risk
Rejection risk
Long waiting times
In what pts would you not offer RRT?
Age >80
OR
WHO performance score 3+
In these pt there is no survival benefit
What are the contraindications for a kidney transplant?
Active infection or malignancy
Severe heart disease not suitable for correction
Severe lung disease
Reversible renal disease
Uncontrolled substance abuse, psychiatric illness
On-going tx non-adherence
Short life expectancy
What immunosupressive drugs are given during renal transplant?
Methylprednisolone in combo with any of the following:
Basiliximab, thyroglobulin
