Q

Why do we use eGFR and not GFR itself?

A

clinically, it is not practical to measure GFR directly, as you need a substance that is freely filtered and that your body doesn’t reabsorb or secrete afterwards and the body does not contain a substance like this
so GFR is estimated using serum creatinine
