Renal Physiology Flashcards
Tubular reabsorption
99% of the filtered water and many useful solutes are absorbed by the tubule cells
Tubular Secretion
The renal tubule and duct cells secrete waste, drugs and excess ions into the fluid
Filtration membrane
A leaky barrier
Fenestrations
Pores the small size permits all solute in blood plasma to exit glomerular capillaries but prevents filtration of blood cells and platelets
Basal Lamina
A layer of cellular material between the endothelium and podocytes, negative charges in the matrix prevent filtration of large negatively charged plasma protein
Pedicel
Extends from podocytes, water goes through the thousands of foot like processes
Glomerular Filtration
Water and most solutes in blood plasma move across the wall of glomerular capillaries, then into the glomerular capsule then to the renal tubule
