Q
what are the hallmarks of nephrotic syndrome?
A
- hypoabuminemia

- hyperlipidproteinuria

4
Q
what happens in minimal change disease?
A
- T cell cytokines cause efacement (flattening out) of the podocytes- which repel negatively charged proteins in the nephrons to stop them from being lost in the urine
- this results in nephrotic syndrome and loss of proteins in the urine-> but selective protein urea-. intermediately sized proteins such as albumin are lost
5
Q
what is the treatment for minimal charge disease?
A
corticosteroid therapy
- 90%/ of children respond, but adults respond more slowly
6
Q
what is the common presentation of good pastures syndrome?
A
haemoptysis and haematuria
