what are the risk factors of renal cancer?
- Smoking is the most significant
- Obesity
- exposure to chemicals
what are the early symptoms of renal cancer?
- No characteristics signs and symptoms
- if they do its generalized symptoms such as weight-loss, weakness, and anemia
what are the advance (late) symptoms of renal cancer? (3)
- gross hematuria
- flank pain
- palpable mass
** having these symptoms might indicate that cancer has already metastasize on the body often to lungs, liver and long bones **
where are the common sites for metastases
liver, lungs and long bones
what is the diagnosis test for kidney cancer?
- IVP with nephrotomography
what are the treatments for kidney cancer
- radical nephrectomy
- Chemo
- radiation
what is radical nephrectomy
removal of kidney
what is the post op care for radical nephrectomy
- monitor for urine output
- encourage patient to DB and C
- Ambulate
- use spirometer
- analgesics

what is the advantage of laparoscopic nephrectomy ?
- smaller incisions so faster healing time
2. Much less pain
What is chemo
- chemotherapy
- does not work well as renal carcinoma is refractory to most chemotherapy drugs
when is radiation used?
used palliatively in inoperable places and where cancer metastasize to bone or lungs
