Renal Flashcards
renal diagnostics labs
urinalysis
serum creatinine
BUN
GFR
most accurate lab predictor for Kidney disease
GFR
renal lab that changes quickly with dehydration and illness
Creatinine
what renal lab would be utilized for drug dose adjustments
Creatinine
Renal us looks at
looks for stones
hydronephrosis (urine flow)
Differentiates masses from cysts
KUB for renal
KUB (kidneys, ureters, bladder)
looks for tumors, air, stones,
CT for renal
looking for stones
MRA
no contrast
renal artery stenosis
Renal blood flow is reflexively related to
the systemic arterial pressure
when systemic pressure decreases
increased renal sympathetic nerve activity is mediated which stimulates renal arteriolar vasoconstriction and subsequently decreases renal blood flow and GFR
when systemic arterial pressure is significantly changed
the decreased renal blood flow decreases GFR and decreases sodium and water excretion which causes an increase in blood volume and thus an increase in systemic pressure
what factors can affect renal blood flow?
exercise
body positioning
hypoxia
hemorrhage
what can the rennin agiotensin aldosterone system capable of
increase systemic arteriole pressure
change renal blood flow
increase sodium reabsorbtion
