Renal Flashcards
What is the osmolality at the tips of the papillae?
It can reach about 1200 mOsm/kg of H20, approximately four times that of plasma
What is the diameter of the glomerulus?
200 microm in diameter
Which arteriole is larger - afferent or efferent?
Afferent
What is the total area of glomerular capillary endothelium across which filtration occurs?
0.8m2
What is the length and diameter of the PCT?
Length 15 mm
Diameter 55 microm
What are the two types of nephrons?
Cortical nephrons - glomeruli in the outer portions of the renal cortex with short loops of Henle
Juxtamedullary nephrons - glomeruli in the juxtamedullary region of the cortex with long loops extending down to the medullary pyramids. This accounts for 15% of nephrons.
