Renal Flashcards
Urine production occurs at which week of gestation?
10 to 12 weeks gestation
Urine is the major constituent of amniotic fluid production increases with age
Gestational, age 22 weeks
Urine flow rate 2 to 5 ML per hour
Gestational age 30 weeks
Urine flow rate 10 to 20 ML per hour
Gestational age 40 weeks
Urine flow rate 25 to 50 ML per hour
Urine, concentrating capacity of kidneys, reach adult value of what? and at what months?
1200 OSM per kilogram
At age 6 to 12 months
(Maxim osmolality for preference is 500 mosm/L compared to 800 for full-term infants)
How does Renal blood flow differ from a 25 to a full-term baby?
For 25-weeker the Reno blood flow is approximately 20 ML per minute this low rate is associated with elevated renal vascular resistance. 2 to 3% of cardiac output, in utero.
For a Full Term baby Reno blood flow is 60 ML per minute, which is much higher.
This is associated with decrease Reno vascular pressure and increase systemic blood pressure..
Renal blood flow accounts for 5 to 18% of cardiac output post Nataly
How does glomerular filtration rate differ with age post natally?
GFR increases doubles by two weeks of age, and is an adult levels by one year of age.
It’s not altered by prematurity
