End stage kidney disease
A
Chronic kidney failure treated with dialysis or transplantation.

CKD definition
A
Kidney damage or decreased kidney function for at least 3 months.
(The 3 months diff acute kidney disease from CKD)

Assessment of kidney function
A
- eGFR
- assessment of albuminuria or proteinuria
- examination of urinary sediment.

Assessment for AKI
A
Urine electrolytes or retroperitoneal ultrasound and/or kidney ultrasound

Diagnosis of AKI is done if
A
- Serum creatinine increases by 0.3 mg/dL or more in 48 hrs.
- Serum creatinine increases 1.5 times from baseline, which is know or presumed to have occurred within prior 7 days.
- A urine volume less than 0.5 mL/kg/hr for 6 hrs.
Test to order:
- serum creatinine, with trend in values over time.
- time-averaged urine output, if available.
