Renal Flashcards
1
Q
Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
A
7-20 mg/dL
- Nitrogenous end product from breakdown of proteins and AA’s
- (elevated) best indicator for dehydration status
- also indicates kidney function (elevated)
2
Q
Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)
A
90-120 mL/min
- Amount blood filtered by glomeruli in one minute
- As CKD worsens, GFR decreases
3
Q
Urine output
A
- At least 30 mL/hr
- Average adult 1500 mL/day
4
Q
Oliguria
A
UO <400 mL in 24 hours
low urine output
5
Q
Anuria
A
UO of <100mL in 24 hours or no UO at all
-Low= Shock?!
6
Q
Urine Specific Gravity
A
1.010-1.030
- Kidneys ability to excrete water
- Reflects hydration status and ability of kidneys to concentrate urine
high=concentrated
7
Q
Urine Osmolality
A
300-900 m0sm/kg
-Kidneys ability to concentrate or dilute urine
high=concentrated with particles
low=diluted
8
Q
Uric acid
A
Female: 2.5-8 mg/dL
Male: 1.9-7.5 mg/dL
- Breakdown of purines
- Produced by liver excreted by kidneys
- Gout: uric acid crystals in joints
9
Q
Creatinine
A
- 6-1.2 mg/dL
- End product of protein metabolism, filtered via glomerulus
- high=kidney disease
