Medici Family
Wealthy and powerful bankers who resided and “took over” Florence. They commissioned art, and “Beautified” Florence.
Donatello
The first great sculptor of the Renaissance. He revived the Classical (Greco-Roman) style of sculpting that was realistic and viewed from all sides. His “David” was the first largest free-standing human sculpture of the Renaissance.
Michelangelo
One of the most famous Renaissance artists. A painter, sculptor, architect and poet. His sculptures and paintings showed realism, detail of the human body, and expression to show personality and emotion. His “Pieta” and “David” are appraised Masterpieces. His greatest work was the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Leonardo Da Vinci
A true “Renaissance Man”. A painter, sculptor, inventor, and scientist. His art was renowned for incredible realism and emotion. His sketches show his observations about human anatomy and new engineering tech. He painted the “Last Supper” Showing Jesus before his crucifixion. His greatest masterpiece was the “Mona Lisa”.
Raphael
“Perfected” Renaissance Painting. Improved perspective and realism by studying Leonardo and Michelangelo. Became the favorite painter of the Pope because of his detailed paintings that showed famous Greeks and Romans along with Renaissance People. His greatest painting was “The School of Athens” that blended classical figures from Greece and Rome. w/ important people from the Renaissance.
Filippo Brunelleschi
Florence’s Greatest Architect. Studied the Roman Pantheon when he built the Cuppolo of Maria del Fiore Cathedral in Florence. The dome inspired modern buildings.
William Shakespeare
The Renaissance in England was most known for literature - Especially his plays.
Northern Renaissance
The Renaissance spread from Italy to here because of Merchants and Scholars spreading Ideas.
French Renaissance
The Renaissance here was known for its unique architecture.
English Renaissance
The Renaissance here was known for literature, especially the works of William Shakespeare.
Netherlands Renaissance
The Renaissance here was most known for the realism in its art.
