A

Term used to describe music based on a mode, a scale used before major and minor keys were developed. A mode is a pattern of notes that composers used to create melodies

Plainchant

A

Unaccompanied melody set to words of the Roman Catholic liturgy. They are modal and have no regular metre. Halo theme is a plainchant. Always in Latin.
