Why was the silk road important during the Renaissance?
It was important because goods and ideas were exchanged between the east and Europe and it was also responsible for spreading diseases.

The Crown, Barons & Bishops, Knights, Commoners (Freeholders and Serfs)
What is a republic? Who has the power in a republic?
A state the power is held by the people and their representatives.

Art, sculptures, new ways of thinking, new inventions.
What was the purpose of the crusades?
To drive the muslims out of the holy land.
What were the effects of the Renaissance?
Contact with other cultures and new ideas spread quickly.
Describe the life of a serf.
Poorest of the peasant class. Serfs were treated like slaves and tied to the land owned by the lord. They had to farm and pay rent from their crops.
Why was the city of Genoa an important trading city?
It was a bigger city and it was connected to waterways.
What were the major effects of the black plague?
The feudal system was brought to an end. People were dying and many people moved to cities and there were not enough people to farm the land.
What was the Renaissance known as?
A time of knowledge, change, and cultural rebirth
What was not one of the reasons that the Islamic empire became the center of learning?
A powerful army
