Q

In what 6 ways can a denture be modified to be more suitable for a bruxist and reduce the risk of fracture?

A
  1. Metal backing to anterior teeth
  2. Co/Cr connector
  3. Metal occlusal surfaces (extend Co/Cr over these surfaces)
  4. Use of a cross-linked teeth (for better wear resistance)

Q

If an error in occlusion occurs at try-in stage, the LHS occludes but the RHS has a posterior open bite, and the FWS is correct when checked, what does this mean? And how is it fixed?

A
  1. if FWS is correct, the occluding teeth on left are maintaining an appropriate OVD, so the teeth on the right need to be lowered into occlusion.
  2. You can do this by adding wax over the teeth on the right to the correct level so that it occludes. You can re-record the occlusion, asking the technician to re-articulate the casts and then reset teeth at new occlusion. Pt would be booked in for further retry.

Q

If an error in occlusion occurs at try-in stage, the LHS occludes but the RHS has a posterior open bite, and there is inadequate FWS when checked, what does this mean? And how is it fixed?

A
  1. it would suggest that the occluding teeth on RHS are propping the bite open.
  2. you would need to remove the occluding teeth that are holding the OVD, replace with wax at chairside, build up a new wax block (record block). Establish correct OVD, re-record occlusion and get the teeth reset for retry.

Q

When is the denture review/ease appointment normally arranged after the fit appointment?

A

48-1 week after fit appointment

17
Q

18
Q

If a patient complains that their dentures move, what 2 clinical steps could you take to try and remedy this?

A
  1. Re-lining fit surafce
  2. Relieving area of frenum or shortening flange extensions
19
Q

If a patient complains that their jaw hurts at the denture review appointment, what might be the cause of this?

A

Change in OVD, always re-check FWS.

20
Q

After how long should full ridge healing take after XLA?
