Primary source
-a document or record containing firsthand information or original data on a topic
-Example: scholarly or research-based journal articles, conference proceedings
Secondary source
-any published or unpublished work that is one step removed from the original/primary source
-Will describe, summarize, analyze, evaluate, or be based on primary sources
-Example: textbooks, review articles, books that interpret original research
Tertiary source
-a written work based on secondary sources, rather than primary documents
-May also index or organize other sources
-Example: dictionaries, encyclopedias, textbooks, manuals, handbooks, indexing sites

Current and available/accessible, edits are documented, older versions are archived, reputable author/creator with visible credentials/affiliation, reputable provider, information verified/peer reviewed

Google, wikipedia, google scholar (must evaluate quality), university library (already evaluated), other official sites
Library website is good for general research and provides a useful place to start
Resources for chemical and physical properties
-Find the chemical, physical, and or safety characteristics of chemical compounds (mass, density, acidity, toxicity, etc)
-Want to know that the values are correct, accurate, and reliable
-Helpful for lab calculations and experiments
-Info is necessary for lab safety

-Chemical abstract service
-Developed to overcome variations, limitations, and complications of chemical naming
-Provides a unique numerical identifier for a specific chemical substance
Importance of citing references and resources
-Lends credibility to work, properly citing sources and references allows for correct reference to be easily located, citing source and references allows readers to find references, important and necessary to give credit to original author via proper citations
-When writing and using chemical references, it is important to know the different parts that make up a citation and proper ACS format for citing different types of references
