Remote Desktop Protocol
A technology that allows you to control a computer remotely over a network connection.
Network layer Authentication (NLA)
When enabling RDP, you can add an extra level of protection by authenticating users before allocating resources for their session. NLA protects RDP from DoS attacks.
Microsoft Remote Assistance (MSRA)
Allows a user to ask for help for a technician or coworker via invitation file protected by a passcode.
Secured Shell (SSH)
A protocol used to securely connect to another computer or sever over a network. You can have a secure connection even if internet connection is not safe. Can use it to run commands, transfer files, and manage computers. To connect, you need to provide a SSH key or password. Main features: Encrypts all data, robust authentication mechanism, operates on port 22.
Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM)
Tools that are designed for use by managed service providers (MSPs). An MSP is a company that provides technical support for their clients. An RMM tool distinguishes clients’ accounts and allows recording and reporting billable support activity.
Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR)
a software agent that collects system data and logs for analysis by a monitoring system to provide early detection of threats.
Wake-On-Lan (WOL)
Remotely turn on a computer or device that’s powered off and enables entering system firmware setup and deploy firmware updates and OS installation.
Roaming Profile
copies the whole profile from a share at logon and copies the updated profile back at logoff.
Folder Redirection
Changes the target of a personal folder such as the Document folder, Picture folder or start Menu folder to a file share. The folder will be available across the network.
