A

Have the client sit on the table with their feet hanging off the edge. Hold the client’s foot and extend the ankle towards dorsi flexion. With the other hand extend the big toe. If positive, the client should experience pain as the toe is extended.

What is Ankylosing Spondylitis?

A

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a type of inflammatory arthritis that targets the joints of the spine. It first affects the sacroiliac (SI) joint, where the spine attaches to the pelvis and then starts to affect other areas of the spine. The hips and shoulders can be affected, and so can the eyes, skin, bowel and lungs.
