Principles of neuroscience Flashcards
What are the 4 lobes of a cerebrum’s hemisphere?
Frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital
What is called the thick band of nerves separating the two hemispheres?
Corpus collosum
What is the largest and most prominent part of the brain?
The Cerebrum
What are the 4 phases of pain
Transduction, Transmission, Modulation, Perception
What is a Nociceptive Pain?
Nociceptive pain occurs when nociceptors detect something potentially harmful to the body
What is a Neuropathic Pain?
Neuropathic pain is often referred to as a chronic condition, that typically occurs without a known or understood trigger. It therefore does not usually accompany an injury.
What is a Nociplastic Pain?
Nociplastic pain is a third category of pain that is distinctive from nociceptive pain, in that it is classified as ‘Pain that arises from altered nociception despite no clear evidence of actual or threatened tissue damage’
