REM Sleep Flashcards
What is the classical triad of serotonin syndrome
Mental status changes, autonomic hyperactivity, neuromyscular abnormalities (hyperreflexia, clonus, rigidity)
Which serotonin post-synaptic agonisis are NOT associated with serotonin syndrome
Fentanyl, Triptans, Buspirone, LSD
What is neuroleptic malignant syndrome?
Fever, Rigidity, mental status changes, with exposure to neuroleptics, dysautohomia, but myoclonus and hyperreflexia are rare
What bipolar medication can make neuroleptic malignant syndrome worse
Lithium
EEG in neuroleptic malignant syndrome
Slow waves
Bromocryptine, Dantrolene, Amantadine recommended in what syndrome
Neuroleptic Malignant syndrome (not recommended in Serotonin Syndrome
Time frame for resolution of serotonin syndrome and neuroleptic malignant syndrome
serotonin syndrome usually resolved in about a day, while neuroleptic malignant syndrome resolves in many days or weeks
Antipyretics can be used in which syndrome - Serotonin or Neuroleptic malignant syndrome
Only in neuroleptic malignant syndrome - antipyretics of no benefit with serotonin syndrome
Indication for intubation in serotonin syndrome and neuroleptic malignant
Pyrexia > 41.1C - also with paralysis, heavy sedation with benzodiazepines
Wave activity in REM sleep
Theta wave predominantes.
Waves responsible for rapid eye movements
PGO waves
