-papal supremacy was rejected
-heresy law is repealed
-described the queen as a ‘supreme governess’
-an oath of supremacy was to be taken by clergymen and church officials
-Restored the legal position of the crown in relation to the church

A

-Formally establishes the CoE as Protestant
-Introduce a single form of worship
-Introduced a strongly Protestant book: 1559 book of common prayer
-Should only have one book of prayer
-Church attendance on sundays and holy days is mandatory, otherwise fines

Royal Injuctions

A

-Set of instructions about the conduct of church services
-3 injunctions had been used previously in 1536,1537, + 1338.
-1st injunction made clear their protestant character + emphasised the suppression of Catholic practices/superstition
-Eucharist would be given out at communion table–> clear signal religion should move towards reform
-Seen as an attack on Catholic practices
-Strongly Protestant

How significant was the settlement?

A

-Some believed her religious settlement was final and meant to last her whole reign (BUT only applied to 20 years of her reign)
-Others believed it wasn’t permanent and other changes were going to be made.
