View of things that ones own group is the center of everything. Group nourishes its pride and vanity. It will boast of superiority, and exalt own divinities. Look with contempt at outsiders. Politics and affiliated groups contains ethnocentric people.

1) See yourself and group as virtuous and superior.
2) See in-groups standards, values, and morals as true.
3) Feel distrust, fear, or sometimes even anger and hatred of out group.
4) Strong tendency to blame out group for any and all trouble.
5) Strong inclination towards obedience to in group authority.
6) Universal tendency toward blind loyalty and solidarity.
7) In extreme cases there is a willingness to fight or die for in-group.

• Ethnocentrism may be biological
• Humans have an existential need for meaning.
  Ex) Safety, familiarity, and belongingness. We need meaning in life.
• Loss of faith in cultural answers. We live in cultures and societies that provide answers to the big questions. What is the meaning of life, where do we go when we die, etc. Our culture provides answers to these questions, we don’t look for answers ourselves.
