Who was Matthew’s main audience?
The Jews (he wanted the Jews to hear Jesus)
Who was Marks main audience?
Gentiles (who are people who don’t already follow Jesus / God)
Who was Luke’s main audience?
Greek and Romans were the audience
Who was John’s main audience?
It was written for the instruction of the early Christian church
When was the gospel of Matthew written?
75-90 A.D
When was the gospel of Mark written?
65-75 A.D
When was the gospel of Luke written?
80-95 A.D
When was the gospel of John written?
90 A.D
How did Matthew portray Jesus?
Matthew portrayed Jesus in a way that showed how Jesus was the fulfilment of the old testament’s prophecies (the Messiah) and the coming king of Israel. He also talked about how Jesus was a great teacher.
How did Mark portray Jesus?
Presents Jesus as the son of God. He is the authoritative son of God who has come to suffer and die to claim victory over sin and death. He shows that Jesus is the servant of the Lord.
How did Luke portray Jesus?
He portrays Jesus as the perfect son of man, the Messiah come to save the nations through the power of God and the Holy Spirit. He showed Jesus was the saviour (come to save us). The perfect yet dependant man.
How did John portray Jesus?
Shows Jesus was the word of God made flesh (the promise that became real). He is the fully divine son of God. He is the sacrifice through which we will receive eternal life.
Explain the importance of Matthews image of Jesus to people today?
Matthew talks about how Jesus was a great teacher which sets an example for us to educate ourselves and others. It also shows that we are following a king (and messiah). He also talks about how Jesus was the fufillment of the propheies which shows us that we can trust in God and Jesus.
Explain the importance of Marks image of Jesus to people today?
Mark talks about how Jesus was the servant of the Lord which sets an example for us today to serve god. It also shows that we are all children of God
Explain the importance of Luke’s image of Jesus to people today?
Luke talks about how Jesus is a saviour which sets the example for us to save others from danger and sin. It also sets an example for the perfect man (something that we can aspire to) and shows us that we can trust in Jesus and God.
