Q

Why might people be for violent protest?

A

Some people may take part in protests which they accept may lead to violence, if they believe that it is the only way to get the government to take notice and end justice. Some people supported violent protests by the suffragette movement in the early twentieth century.
It could be a form of righteous anger.

A
  1. They are completely indiscriminate and have long-term effects.
  2. They are totally disproportionat to any possible success that may follow.
  3. With WMDs the possibility of success is small; there are no ‘victors, only victims’ (Pope Benedict XVI).
  4. The cost of researching, building and maintaining these weapons is great; it prevents governments from spending to improve people’s lives.
  5. Possession of these weapons increases tension and fear, making the world less safe.
