what are the conditions for a just war
- the war must have a just cause including self-defence, or defending someone else
- must be declared by the correct authority eg government
- the intention of the war must be to defeat wrongdoing
- fighting must be as a last resort
- must be a reasonable chance of success from both sides
- methods used to fight must be proportional
