- add ‘ Ali is the friend of God ‘ that shows the belief that Ali was the true successor

how do Muslims prepare for prayer

why do people give Zakah
- reminds them that everything comes from God
- frees people from greed and selfishness
- helps to purify and cleanse the soul

what is Hajj
a pilgrimage made for religious regions and should happen at least once in a Muslims life
what are the origins of Hajj
- Prophet Ibrahim was told by God to take his wife and son to Arabia then he was told to leave them on their own but they ran out of supplies so Hajira ran up two hills and prayed and Ishmel struck his foot into the ground and water gushed out. Then God told Ibrahim to build a shrine (the Ka’aba)
what is Ihram
a sacred state that involves ritual washing, praying and putting on Ihram clothing
what does the Ihram clothing represent
equality and purity
what happens at the Ka’aba

what happens at Arafat
walk along the walkway between the hills of Safa and Marwah after completing 7 circuits they return to the Ka’aba then walk to Arafat
what happens at Mina
there are three stone walls called Jamarat that represent devil and temptation. Pilgrims throw pebbles at the walls to show rejection of evil
what is the importance of Hajj
- brings deep spiritual transformation
- teaches sincerity and humility in a persons relationship with God

- marks the end of Ramadan
how do they celebrate Id-ul-fitr
- celebrated between 1-3 days
- gather in mosques and pray
- wear special clothes, decorate homes, special food is eaten and processions take place
why is Id-ul-fitr celebrated
thanking God for the strength he has given them throughout Ramadan
what is Id-ul-adha
celebration that remembers and honours the prophet Ibrahim for being willing to follows Gods command and sacrifice his son
how is Id-ul-Adha celebrated
- prayers in a mosque
- animals are slaughtered to remember Ibrahims sacrifice
- if animals cant be slaughtered money is given to the poor
what is Ahsura
the remembrance of Husayn, Son of Ali
how do Shi’a muslims celebrate Ahsura
- some cut or beat themselves to remember the suffering of Husayn
- plays are performed
- processions
