3)nuns generally did worse than monks. Most monks could find jobs within the church like ordinary parish priests
4)government treated monks and nuns from the poorest establishments the worst
5)Historians don’t correlate the dissolution of the monasteries with an increase in poverty as the number effected in each community was not great and many found new places within the church

5)increase in land caused a scramble between gentry, wealthy merchants, and nobility increased land prices. Not very significant- would’ve increased rents slightly but only affected the wealthy. Coincidental that the land rush was also at the time of increasing inflation

22
Q

How did Henrician society change as a result of the reformation?
No change:
1)the studies of ______ revealed that…
2) 6 months after…
3)what proclamation put an end to this?
4)Who’s studies of what have shown what?
5) what did his studies of the 1950s show?

A

1) the studies of Church wardens accounts revealed that many of the traditional Catholic practices continued until the government forced compliance
2) 6 month after the 1538 Royal injunctions, 80% of the churches in three Lincon deaneries had not bought the new English bible and officials were doing nothing to enforce them.
3) A proclamation and a threat of a £2 fine encouraged their use.
4) Ronald Huttons studies of Church wardens accounts showed that most of the traditional habits of the 1520s (washing of saints, replacement of banners/ veils) continued deep into Henry’s reign.
5) studies revealed that at a local level most people were strong Catholics even by the end of Henry’s reign. Altars and images quickly restored and there were more recruits training to be priests.
