What is a literal interpretation of the Bible? What is a contextual/critical interpretation?
Literal Interpretation: Reading the Bible word for word, as it is written.
Contextual Interpretation: Understanding the deeper meaning by looking at history, culture, and context.
What approach do Catholics use to interpret the Bible?
Catholic Approach: Combines faith, Church teachings, and context to understand the Bible.
What are the literary forms found in the Bible?
Literary Forms in the Bible: Stories, poems, letters, parables (short stories with lessons), history.
Define “inerrancy”. Provide an example.
Inerrancy: The Bible has no errors in its teachings about faith and morals (e.g., Jesus’ resurrection is true).
Define “inspiration”.
Inspiration: God guided human authors to write the Bible.
Review the cycle of Creation, Decreation and Recreation in the Bible; review the stories of Decreation
Creation:
God created the world and everything in it, including humans, in a perfect state13.
The creation story in Genesis symbolically presents God’s work as occurring over six days9.
Decreation:
Decreation is the process of unmaking or breaking down of God’s creation12.
It occurs when humans disconnect from God through sin15.
Examples of Decreation:

Recreation:
Recreation is God’s process of restoring and renewing His creation12.
It’s part of God’s redemptive plan for humanity1.
Jesus Christ is seen as the agent of recreation, reversing the effects of sin

Ten Commandments: God’s rules for living a good life (e.g., don’t steal, honor your parents).

What are the Gospels? What does it mean to “evangelize”?
Gospels: Books about Jesus’ life (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John).Evangelize: Sharing Jesus’ message with others.
What does the word “beatitude” mean?
complete happenis that comes from being blessed by God.
What are the Beatitudes that Jesus gives us
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land.
Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
How are the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes connected?
Ten Commandments & Beatitudes: Both teach us how to live; commandments focus on rules, beatitudes focus on attitudes.
Explain the importance of the eucharist and “transubstantiation”
The Eucharist is a special Catholic ritual where bread and wine are blessed. Catholics believe these turn into Jesus’s actual body and blood, even though they still look like bread and wine. This change is called transubstantiation.
What are parables?
Parables: Short stories Jesus told to teach lessons.

Incarnation: God became human in Jesus.

What It Teaches Us: Every human life is valuable and loved by God.

Fifth Commandment: “Do not kill.” Includes respecting life (no murder, abortion, or harm).
