The Old testament is the first part of The Bible that contains scriptures from the Hebrew Bible from the Jewish faith. The New Testament is the second part of the Bible that contains the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

What is a parable? What are the elements of a parable. Give 2 examples of a parable and morals.

A

A parable is a short story. The elements of a parable are: a parable is a short story, a parable is a comparison, a parable contains a crisis, a parable has an ending, a parable teaches us a lesson about the Kingdom of God.

The first example is the parable of the prodigal son. The moral was that no matter how many times we sin God is willing and just to forgive us our sins if we are truly sorry and He still loves us.

The second parable is the parable of the good samaritan. The moral was that we should love and be kind to everyone including our enemies.

What is sin? What are the types of sin we discussed in class?

A

Sin is the name we give to the actions in our lives that harm our relationship with God and others. The first sin is mortal sin which completley breaks our relationship with God (ex. murder), the second is veneial sin which doesn’t break our relationship with
God but causes a ‘cooling’ in the relationship (ex. lying), the last one is social sin which goes against human dignity by causing someone to suffer oppression, exploitation etc.

Describe the story of Noah’s Ark? What sign/symbol in the sky showed the covenant between God and Noah?

A

Noah’s ark is about a man named Noah who was instructed by God to build a giant ark because God was going to send a flood that would flood the whole earth. He wanted Noah and his family to be save so he told Noah to put his family and every animal in it. After God sent the flood he put in the sky a rainbow that represented God’s promise that he would never again destroy the earth with a flood.

A

The word synoptic means “seen together”. The books that are apart of the synoptic gospels are Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

A

Interpreting the Bible litterally means to read it word for word without analyzing the text and looking at it in detail. To interpret the Bible contexually means to put the words into context and read it in detail analyzing the text.

What is the story of Abraham and Isaac about?

A

The story of Abraham and Isaac is about a time when God instructed Abraham to sacrific his only son Isaac on Mount Moriah. Abraham obyed God but just as he was about to sacrifice Isaac and angel stopped him because God was testing Abraham’s loyalty and faithfulness. Shortly after Abraham see’s a ram caught by it’s horns in a thicket and he offers it to God in Isaac’s place.

Explain the story of Moses.

A

Moses was a child born in Egypt to Hebrew parents. When he was still a baby, his mother laid him in a basket and sent him down the Nile river to protect him because Pharoah was ordering for every Hebrew male to be killed. Moses washed up near the Pharoah’s palace and was fpound by the Pharoah’s daughter who brought him in and raised him. When Moses was older, he saw an egyptian beating a Hebrew and so he killed the egyptian. Once he realized what he did he fled to a land called Midian and encountered God through a burning bush who said he was going to use him to lead the Israelites out of slavery and into the land He promised them

Explain the relationship each word has with each other: Pashcal Mystery/Last Supper/=Passover

A

The paschal mystery is about through Moses and the first passover His secret plan of salvation through the blood of a lamb. This is later revealved in Jesus the lamb of the new covenant. In the last supper where Jesus had a final meal with his discples he took the elements of the passover meal (bread and wine) and made them symbols of his death (wine=his blood) (bread=his body). In the Passover God commanded Moses to tell the Israelites to kill their best lamb and put it’s blood on the doorposts to be saved from the plauge of the death of every firstborn child.
All of these events forshadowed Jesus as being the Lamb for sacrifice because His blood was shed for us on the cross so we could have salavation. So, Jesus became that Lamb for us.

Explain the parable of the Good Samaritain.

A

The parable of the good samaritan is about a Jewish traveller who was beaten and stripped of his clothing by robbers and left alongside the road half-dead. Along cam a Jewish preist and Levite who both passed by him and didn’t help. After a Samaritan comes and helps him by taking him to an inn, got him food, and took care of him. Even though Samaritans and Jews were enemies the samaritan still helped.

Explain the parable of the prodigal son.

A

The parable of the prodigal son are about a man who had 2 sons- one of his sons asked for half of his inheritance. His father gave it to him and the son left home with it and spent all the money. He became broke and was begging for food. Eventually he came home and his father forgave him and rejoiced over him.

  1. Life and dignity of human person- Each person is valuable and worthy of respect no matter their race, skin color, religion, age, gender etc.
  2. Preferential option for the poor- Is the priority of taking care of people who are in need and can’t help themselves ex. widows, homeless, those who do not have food etc.

A

It means that the Bible is without error or fault in all its teachings and scriptures.
