List and discuss the 2 Greatest Commandment given to us by Jesus during the Sermon on the mount

A

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Love God above all else, love yourself, and love your neighbor.

Intro-During the Sermon on , Jesus gave what is often known as his most important instruction; the greatest commandment and the second greatest commandment. Found in the Gospel of Matthew, these 2 commandments are said to be not only the most important, but one of the most helpful instructions Jesus has ever given. The greatest commandment is able to help others and provide moral guidance.

body 1-First, someone asked Jesus what the greatest commandment is, and Jesus replied “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” The point of the greatest commandment is to say that you must devote yourself to God, and put your relationship with him above anything else. To love God with your heart, soul, and mind.

body 2-The second commandment God gives us is “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” This means to love ourselves completely and fully. However, it is also saying to love our neighbor. In a way, everyone is our neighbor. What the second commandment is telling us is to love ourselves, and to love everyone around us. To spread and give love is what the second commandment is telling us.

Conclusion-In conclusion, the greatest commandment is a way of life. It is something that guides Catholics, and is one of the fundamental building blocks to Catholicism. This commandment is one of Jesus most important, if not, the most important directive he has ever given, and one we should all live by.
