What is inter-rater reliability?
Is everyone on the research team doing the same thing
How do you assess inter-rater reliability?
Do a test where all members of the research team do the same thing to see if you have inter-rater/inter-observer reliability
What is internal reliability?
How consistent a measure is within an investigation
How do you assess internal reliability?
Split half method:
Get people to do the test, split questions into half to make 2 scores to make a correlation
= should find the scores are similar
How do you improve internal reliability?
Carefully search through answers for the individual responses and look for what questions threw them out
What is external reliability?
How reliable the test is from one occasion to another = will you get the same result
How do you assess external reliability?
Test-retest = assess the consistency/stability of the test
- repeat the test over time using the same participants = make a correlation of the results.
A high correlation suggests the test is reliable
