Superior and Inferior
Superior- the part is above another part or close to the head
Inferior- the part is located below another part or closer to the feet
Anterior and Posterior
Anterior - towards the front surface (belly surface)
Posterior- towards the back of the surface
Medial and Lateral
Medial - towards the midline of the body
Lateral - away from the midline of the body
Proximal and Distal
Proximal - the structure is nearer to the point of attachment
Distal - a part is further away from the point of attachment
Superficial and Deep
Superficial - a part is located on or near surface of the body
Deep - the body part is away from the surface of the body
Central and Peripheral
Central - the part is located in the centre
Peripheral - away from the centre
