ques Flashcards
veins
brings blood to the heart from the body
portal of entry
the passageway pathogens can enter to body
Ph scale
scale used to specify the acidity or basicity of aqueous solutions
portal of entry - examples
respiratory tract - mouth and nose
skin - wound/bacteria
gastrointestinal tract - salmonella
reproductive tract - HIV
arteries
take blood away from the heart to the body
components of blood
red blood cells
white cells
plasma
platelets
capillaries
blood vessels that are responsible for the exchange of O2 and CO2 into and out of tissues
cardiovascular system & BP
The force is generated with each heartbeat as blood is pumped from the heart into the blood vessels. The size and elasticity of the artery walls also affect blood pressure. Each time the heart beats, pressure is created inside the arteries.
BP
Blood pressure is the pressure against the walls of the arteries when the heart is contracting or relaxing.
Blood pressure (BP) is needed to push blood through the arteries and arterioles to an organ or tissue.
