* Nuptial mass, couple take active role (e.g. bring bread and wine to altar), vows and liturgies direct couples thoughts to God and his action throughout the marriage ceremony

* COE - members CAN undergo same sex marriage BUT weddings cannot be conducted by the Church

A

Abstaining from sex and marriage COMPLETELY, focus is fully placed on God
* Paul, one of the apostles, was celibate, encouraged followers to do so as well

25
Why are RCC priests, monks and nuns celibate?
**CELIBACY IS SEEN AS A GIFT WHEN CALLED INTO PRIESTHOOD (not a restriction)** * better enabled to share love of God with all, rather than being distracted by love that would otherwise be shared with spouse + children
26
Artificial VS Natural contraception?
Artificial - prevention of conception through artificial means e.g. condoms, the pill, IUDS Natural - reducing likelihood of conception through natural methods e.g. rhythm method
27
Why do some Christians refuse to use artifical contraception?
**IF THEY BELIEVE LIFE BEGINS AT CONCEPTION**, methods such as the pill STOP ANY FORMS OF CONCEPTION HAPPENING, **essentially kills a life** * **however most denomiations teach that artificial contraceptives are ok**, COE accepts, ensures children are planned and wanted
28

Not having sex before marriage
29
What is Teen Aid and why do they support abstinence?
-Organisation that advertises abstinence to young people through posters, adverts etc. -emphasies that **sex was created by God as an expression of love in marriage** -abstinence reflects sense of self worth + value
30
RCC beliefs about divorce?
**MARRIAGE IS INDISSOLUBLE** * **breaking of legal agreement NOT the holy agreement made with God** * if experiencing difficulties, should work on restoring marriage * IF DIVORCE HAPPENS, cannot remarry CONSIDERED ADULTEROUS
31
What is an annulment? What do RCC believe about them?
**Is agreeing that the promises/vows made in the marriage weren't valid, so neither was the marriage** * can happen if the marriage was non-consensual/forced, if it was never consummated * FREE TO REMARRY AFTER ANNULMENT
32
COE beliefs about divorce?
**Encourages vows to be lifelong** * HOWEVER, recognises divorce is sometimes inevitable * free to remarry - up to parish priest to allow this, dependant on factors in last marriage

**MEN AND WOMAN HAVE DIFFERENT ROLES but compliment eachother** -i.e. woman are the homemakers, take care of the children, men provide -equality is shown by taking on different responsibilities
34
What is egalitarianism?
**MEN AND WOMAN WERE CREATED EQUALLY ** -men and woman should use their abilities as teamwork, should have same oppurtunites in what they can do in then relationship
35
Divergence in complimentarianism and egalitarianism?
**RCC - support complimentarianism COE - lean towards egalitarianism ** SECULARISATION IN THE UK may sway and create a wide range of beliefs in individual Christians
36
Role of men and woman in Christian communites?
**RCC + ORTHODOX - complimentarianism** * early church leaders all men, Jesus' disciples were all men * woman should be submissive to men * priests must be men, **act in the role of Jesus** when performing the Eucharist **COE + METHODIST - egalitarianism** * may allow female priests and vicars * argue **God created men and woman in his image** * argue that Jesus was following the tradition of his time
